Media & Architecture

...connecting the dots...

ABOUT ME

about

Experimental | Innovative | Interdisciplinary

I studied architecture at Bauhaus University Weimar and media architecture at the SUNY Buffalo, supervised by Prof. Omar Khan.

I worked at Andreas Thiele Architects, Berlin, where I gained experience as a professional architect. I was involved in a variety of projects including large- and small-scale residential development as well as office design, art gallery design and furniture design.

My professional and research interests consist of not only architecture but also the position of technology and media. I possess skills in several multi-media programming languages as well as sensor-based automata.

I seek to explore new boundaries of architecture and material environment. I explore architecture as progenitor of new living that emphasizes environmental consciousness as well as technological potentials. My practice includes not only architecture, but also the systems and applications that augment conventional architectural environment and objects. My work is driven by my keen interest in the functional aspects of “intelligent” spaces; new concepts of interaction in space; and the development of innovative information systems.

Why Me?

  • I possess a unique combination of skills.
  • I am passionate about my profession.
  • I am driven to deliver high-quality work.
  • I gained international experience in China, the US and Europe.

"TU Berlin Summer University 2017 | Architecture of Soundscape Berlin"

This summer I will be co-teaching the course “Architecture of Soundscape Berlin” with Sang Lee. The students will learn how to read, sample and represent an urban place by means of its sonic qualities and how to transition between media through drawings and construction. Our goal is to create a performative object to be install in Berlin by the end of the course.

"Creative Makers | Future City"

As part of the ReDI School of Digital Integration I am leading the workshop “Future City”. With this studio-based workshop we want to help develop the creativity and imagination of young inventors. The kids are introduced to real world problems and encouraged to apply critical thinking skills as well as creative problem solving skills to develop their own solutions. The young innovators learn new technologies, robotics and a range of digital tools such as laser cutting and programming to create their own work.

MY WORK

Ever since graduation, I have dedicated my efforts to the relationship between digital media and architecture. As Robert Venturi said, architecture has always been a medium to tell and project the narratives of a given society and culture. Today, we can say that the digital media culture provide the dominant mode of our narratives. In this sense architecture necessarily needs to involve media more deeply into its architectonic systems. Media is more than an added, extraneous element to architecture. As the mediatic elements become prevalent and ubiquitous, architecture can no longer remain detached from the constructs of contemporary media. I believe that today’s media offer unexplored dimensions of architecture. They include not only the representational aspects and control systems of architecture, but also more importantly the way we inhabit and experience architecture by providing a new kind of sensuousness.
